Couple sur les rochers et dans la vie depuis près de 30 ans, nous partageons notre temps entre grimpe, encadrement en escalade, conférences et écriture. Notre camp de base pour l’hiver a récemment migré du pied de Ceüse aux contreforts du Luberon.
Stéphanie Bodet
Ce qu’elle aime en paroi, c’est vivre hors du temps avec juste l’essentiel et apprendre à apprivoiser ce milieu à priori austère. Dans une autre vie, Stéphanie a gagné la Coupe du Monde de bloc et enseigné le français. Plus tard elle a gravi El Capitan en libre et partagé 14 jours durant une paroi dans la jungle amazonienne avec 5 compagnons, dont elle a fait le récit dans « Salto Angel » aux éditions Guérin. En 2016, elle publie toujours aux éditions Guérin, « A la Verticale de Soi », un livre intime sur son parcours de petite fille asmathique devenue grimpeuse de haut niveau. BE escalade et professeur de yoga, elle partage sa philosophie de la grimpe et de la vie à travers des stages et avec son écriture. Pour Stéphanie, au-delà de la performance, l’escalade est un geste poétique et un bel apprentissage de la vie. En 2019, elle publie son premier roman, « Habiter le monde » aux éditions Gallimard dans la collection L’Arpenteur.
Arnaud Petit
A l’âge de 12 ans, Arnaud ouvrait au tamponnoir ses premières voies d’escalade sur les petits blocs proche de la maison familiale. A 16 ans il découvre le sauvage massif de Bavella en Corse : c’est le début de sa passion pour l’ouverture de grandes voies. Après des études de physique et un court passage par les podiums de la compétition, où il rencontre Stéphanie, c’est en couple qu’il va découvrir certains des plus beaux big walls de la planète. Face à une paroi vierge, Arnaud retrouve son âme d’enfant et ce jeu magique qui lui paraît sans limite constitue sa plus grande source d’épanouissement. Depuis 25 ans, de la Jordanie à Taghia, il a ouvert des voies devenues des classiques. Il a gagné le Coupe du Monde d’escalade en 1996 et il est guide de Haute Montagne depuis 2004 (major de sa promotion). En 2011 il gravit une voie improbable à Ceüse en utilisant uniquement des protections naturelles, aventure mise en image avec le film « Black Bean ». Il a publié 3 livres chez Glénat, la série désormais culte des Parois de Légende. En 2019, Arnaud publie un manuel d’escalade très complet aux éditions du Mont-Blanc, « Escalade – Initiation, plaisir et progression ».

IN ENGLISH AND CV : That’s what we like the most: spending a long time with other cultures (like in the mountains of Marocco or Madagascar). We discovered that we have a kindred spirit with these people, not only do we share the mountain but we partake in the simple fact that we all like to be in those mountains. When we come back home we try to share this : Stéphanie is a writer and Arnaud is an experienced photographer and we have published 4 books and written many articles. We are doing some presentations in Europe and since 2013 we organize some climbing camp, in Ceüse or anywhere else we know very well and can share our experience.
To sum up our careers, we have climbed some of the greatest big walls on the planet (the books « Parois de Légende » refers to this). Additionally, Stéphanie is the 3rd female climber to lead El Capitan free. I am well-known for having climbed one of the toughest trad route in the world, Black Bean in Ceüse in 2011.
Our climbing films have evolved in the last few years, now they are less about performance but more about the feelings that we get from climbing. Climbing is poetry in motion : finding balance, creating, inventing route where nothing but a blank slab of rock once was, questioning our motivation to go ‘up there’, getting a grip on reality…
